Moxie was born in Lowell, MA in 1876, 10 years before Coca Cola debuted in soda fountains. Its gentian forward flavor makes it stand out amongst its less original peers, winning many die hard fans and a few detractors. Moxie outsold Coca Cola in the 20s. Confident youths with swagger did not have "moxie" until the drink entered the word into the American lexicon. It's even said that the iconic image of Uncle Sam pointing his finger through the fourth wall was modeled after the Moxie boy. Born in Massachusetts, once loved by all Americans, the drink still holds a special place in the heart of Mainers. Moxie is the official soft drink of the state of Maine. Little wonder that this earthy, quirky, American original has found a home with the hearty folk of this great state.
